Wee Believers - Thursday, March 31, 2011

We are just about at the half-way mark of Lent, friends! Time for checking in on how everyone is doing with the Lenten Challenge: the plan to spend 10 extra minutes in family prayer each day. Don’t stop reading if you haven’t been able to keep up; we know there is a lot to get done in a day and it’s not too late to start! We would love to hear how your family is sharing prayer time together—we’ve found that our children look for ideas through the day to pray for or about. What an inspiration for us as parents! Log onto the Wee Believers Facebook page and give us an update! Have a blessed day, friends!

OK, let’s face it, March is not the most stunningly beautiful month. Looking out the window at this very moment, I see gray skies, a wet street, and branches bending uncomfortably in the wind. After January and February, many of us have cabin fever with young children racing around the house during these dreary weather months. By this point in the calendar year, we are out of ideas to occupy our little ones’ time and need HELP! Fear not, friends! Faith Fort to the rescue! Type in www.weebelievers.com/faith-fort and feel your stress melt away. Here you will find FREE downloadables and printables that include mazes, coloring pages, dot-to-dots, crossword puzzles, word searches, etc., all in the name of providing wholesome, fun, and faith-filled activities for kids. Perfect for church, school, or any rainy March day that needs a little ray of sunshine! For those of our adult friends who have creative skills, we are always happy to expand our current collection of Faith Fort activities and even recipes, so feel free to contact us with your wishlist! Get out your green, everyone, and start searching around for some four-leaf clovers! This is the day we honor the saint who brought Christianity to the country of Ireland!

While we are on the subject of the land where sheep roam freely, let us take this opportunity to put the spotlight on one of our new products this year, our Lil’ Prayer Buddy™. It is an adorable, cuddly plush lamb with floppy legs adorned in whimsical fabric. Besides being irresistibly cute, it is also educational: the lamb recites prayers for children to learn. To find out more, check out our website: www.WeeBelievers.com

Have a lucky and blessed St. Patrick’s Day, friends!

Wee Believers - Thursday, March 10, 2011

For children, Ash Wednesday can feel like a topsy-turvy sort of day. Imagine walking around seeing a whole bunch of people with gray smudges on their foreheads and no one saying anything about it! What a wonderful learning opportunity for the wee ones; a chance for grown-ups to tell children about God’s love for us and our need to demonstrate that we are sorry for things we have done wrong. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Season of Lent. It is a special time when, in preparing for Easter, we pray, reflect, and repent. To practice sacrifice, adults can encourage children to give up something like their usual scoop of chocolate ice cream with sprinkles or their favorite superhero television show. Another good idea is to promote virtues during this time, such as practicing charity by not picking fights with a sometimes pesky sibling, or honesty by telling the truth about how those math quizzes REALLY went! We know it can be rough to make it all the way through Lent while remembering to keep up with these small sacrifices, so the team at Wee Believers thought we would try to do something together—a Wee Believers Lenten Challenge, if you will! So here’s the challenge: each night let’s spend 10 extra minutes in prayer with our families taking special care to make even the smallest have a special part in that time.  We will check in with you through the season to see how you are doing and let you know how things are going on our end! If you need someplace to start Psalm 51 captures the spirit of Lent and can be used as a prayer for the whole family:

Create in me a clean heart, oh God, And renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, And take not your Holy Spirit from me. Give me the joy of your saving help again, And sustain me with your bountiful Spirit.

Have a blessed Ash Wednesday, friends!

Merry Christmas, friends! As we imagine Mary and Joseph tending to the Infant Jesus, let us consider with what hope and joy they greeted His birth—the beginning of the Good News! Each of us has been formed by God for a particular life, work, and story -- to be part of the story of faith—each of us with unique ways of serving and being fruitful. May we do our very best to be a light in the world, as Jesus is for each of us. And with the Gospel of Luke (2:14) in mind, we rejoice and say: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased!”
